Looking for something for your New Year’s Eve celebration? My young friend, Sarah, shared her recipe for a very easy, very pretty and very delicious sweet and spicy appetizer. I watched her husband make Jalapeno Cranberry Spread recently and everyone at the table commented how much they enjoyed it.
Jalapeno Cranberry Spread has now become a staple at many of our get-togethers. It’s great to put out when friends or family stop in and you want to serve some nibblers. Sometimes one of our adult kids will pop in for a visit and then another daughter gets word of it and over they come too. It is lots of fun but suddenly we have a house full of hungry people.
I usually have cream cheese in the fridge and keep a couple cans of cranberry sauce in the pantry. I make my own red pepper jelly but you can find it in the grocery store. The recipe uses just 1/3 of a cup so the extra is stored in the refrigerator for later.
If you are interested, here is the link to make your own pepper jam.
The next time you need jalapeno peppers, pick up a few extra. Chop the peppers, measure 1/4-cup portions and store in the freezer. It is so convenient to keep a few bags on hand, ready whenever you need then.
I texted Sarah for the recipe and she was happy to share it.
Jalapeno Cranberry Spread
Combine:
- 1/2 can whole cranberry sauce
- 1/3 cup red pepper jelly (I used Tabasco Brand)
- 2 Tbs. sugar
Microwave for 1 minute (or less) until sugar is dissolved.
- 1+ Tablespoon cilantro, (or parsley) chopped
- 1/2 to 1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
Mix in a tablespoon of chopped cilantro (or parsley).
Pour mixture over an 8-ounce brick of cream cheese.
Top with extra cilantro and finely chopped jalapeno peppers.
Serve with your favorite crackers

This dip has the flavor spectrum, doesn't it? Sweet, tart, spicy, hot! Wow!
that does look tasty and really easy to prepare.

P.S. Sorry I haven't visited lately…holidays are a bit rough.
This looks amazing. I have the cranberries, I just need the jelly. I could go for some of this right now. Yum!
Oh my but that sounds good! We are spending New Years quietly with kids and board games and this sounds like something we'd all like.
