We’re celebration someone’s birthday today! Our sweet Keri Jill is turning SIX!
Keri likes twirling and singing and being creative. Drawing, painting and poetry too. And, girly things. So, I made her a pretty chalkboard for her bedroom. A recycled and re-purposed garage sale framed mirror became a chalkboard birthday gift for this little girl turning six years old. It is an easy DIY project.
Even in its bright gold finish, I knew it wouldn’t be a big job to transform its appearance and function. To begin, I removed the attached mirror and replaced it with a piece of wood cut the same size. The rose frame was originally brightly painted, but a few coats of white spray paint gave it new life. I used a satin bright white paint.
The piece of wood that was to become the writing surface took many coats (probably 7) of chalkboard spray paint to get good coverage and good writing surface. I gave it light coats to ensure there would be no drips.

I love the framed chalk board. What a cute idea.
Oh that is lovely. Funnily enough I have an ornate 'rescued' mirror that was white plastic and I repainted it in gold, I did keep the mirror though. I hope she liked it
