Hidden Valley Ranch Sausage Stars

By Lorraine

Easy recipe for Hidden Valley Sausage Stars. Popular appetizer for parties, holidays and even Super Bowl festivities.
I have been wanting to share this appetizer recipe since Christmas. It wouldn’t be Christmas Eve dinner without Hidden Valley Sausage Stars at our house. But now we are in the middle of summer and these delicious appetizers are just as popular.

Favorite appetizer

Sausage stars have become our all-occasion appetizer because they are so popular. A cheesy sausage filling with a delicious ranch dressing flavor, fills the won ton wrappers. When baked, the wrappers get crisp and all of the filling melts together.

I have used this old, soiled recipe many times through the years.
I got it from a Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

A holiday get together, drinks with friends or a Super Bowl party are just a few times you might want a great appetizer. Sausage Stars are a tasty choice to serve.

Hidden Valley Ranch Sausage Stars Recipe

PRINT RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 cups (1 lb.) cooked crumbled sausage
  • 1  1/2 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup prepared Hidden Valley Ranch Original Ranch Salad Dressing Mix (you can substitute bottled Ranch)
  • 1 can (2.25 oz) sliced ripe olives
  • 1/2 cup chopped red or green bell pepper
  • 1 pkg. won ton wrappers (I find then in the vegetable case) or egg roll wrappers, cut into quarters
DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Blot the sausage dry with a paper towels, and combine with cheeses, salad dressing, olives and pepper.

Lightly grease a mini muffin pan with cooking spray and press 1 wrapper in each cup. I let the won ton wrappers come to room temperature and press them into each muffin cup using a tart shaper trying to keep won ton open for filling.

Lightly spray with vegetable spray and bake for 5 minutes until golden. Remove from tins; place on baking sheet. Fill with sausage mixture.  Bake 5 minutes until bubbly.

Makes 4-5 dozen

A patient at a doctors office I worked for copied this recipe out of a magazine about 20 years ago and gave it to all of the women on staff. I’ve been making these nearly every Christmas since. They’re a family fave!

Hi Jamie! We probably got the recipe from the same magazine although I think I’ve been making them for longer than twenty years. So fun that we share the same holiday food tradition. Thanks a bunch for your visit and your comment! Sending very Merry Christmas wishes.

Anything in a wonton wrapper must be luscious.

My mom and me have been making these for years. It's a tried and true recipe that is always a crowd pleaser. The one thing we do differently though is we normally use ground turkey instead of the sausage. Good post!
