So autumn… So yummy!
Ginger Crinkles Cookie recipe came got from a friend (who got it from a friend, who got it from her grandmother) back in the early 80’s. Crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. It has been a favorite at our house all these years.
Ginger Crinkles
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups flour
- 3 tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 1/3 cups sugar, divided
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- ¾ cup shortening
- ¼ cup light molasses
DIRECTIONS:
- Combine 1 cup sugar with shortening.
- Add molasses and egg.
- Combine with dry ingredients.
- Roll into 1” balls and dip in the remaining 1/3 cup sugar.
- Bake 8-10 minutes at 350.

I love ginger cookies! I have my german grandmother's recipe which is similar to yours. She called them Sugar and Spice cookies, but my girls and I have always called them 'Man Catchers!' You can guess the reason!

So very grateful for my vision…my oldest son lost the vision in one eye following a horrible car accident in 1995. I remember his fear (and mine) while we waited to see how his other eye would heal. Praise God the other eye was saved. We were just talking the other day about how glad he was that he could "see" his sweet Penelope.
I just ordered the Fanny Farmer baking book. I had it many years ago and it had the best gingersnaps recipe in it. I can't wait to make them again. Perhaps I will do a comparison of your ginger crinkles.
