Think on These Things #15 ~ Trust and Obey

By Lorraine

  1. Trust and Obey
  2. John H. Sammis, 1846-1919
  3. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
    And with all who will trust and obey.
    • Refrain:
      Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
      To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
  4. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
    Can abide while we trust and obey.
  5. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
    But is blessed if we trust and obey.
  6. But we never can prove the delights of His love
    Until all on the altar we lay;
    For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust and obey.
  7. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.

    Your photo with that verse is simply beautiful! Trust and Obey is a song I often sing. I love that you wrote out all the words. It is really that simple, isn't it? If we love Him and trust Him, we will …obey.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

    Lorraine, I love this post because Trust and Obey was always a favorite of mine growing up and it stirs all sorts of great memories of people and life gone by. The church I go to now doesn't sing hymns very often and when they do they seem to always modernize them which I find disheartening. So thanks for this. And thank you for coming by Quirky Vistas to leave such a nice comment about the rehab of my rascal. He's been rehabilitated now if you want to see what became of him. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop and read at Quirky Vistas.

    Thanks for such a beautiful post Lorraine. It brought to mind one of my favorite quotes shared by Ezra Taft Benson, "When obedience becomes a quest rather than a sacrifice, then you will have real power." I have found this to be so true in my life.

    Happy Memorial Day to you, John and your sweet family.

    The Scripture verse you featured is a favorite of mine. Such profound truth. Sometimes we're more willing to sacrifice than to simply obey, and yet that is what He requires.

    And the hymn is one that my youngest daughter and I are learning and singing together in our homeschool "Morning Time" right now! It is not a hymn that I hear a lot, so I was delightfully surprised that you shared it this week!

    Lorraine- I can remember singing that in church when I was young. It was such a peaceful song…trust and obey is such a wonderful piece of advice, isn't it? I wish sometimes I would be quicker to do that then to fret over something- xo Diana

    Well, I don't have a post to share about a verse. But as I was feeling overwhelmed in helping care for my aging parents, a verse was shared with me, "Bear one another's burdens." I needed to hear that! Thanks for sharing your verse about obedience.

    Love that hymn – heard this afternoon about a minister's wife today diagnosed with colon & liver cancer – 5 children, all under 18. Though I don't know them personally, they run a camp my children attend in summer – and the news has just really shaken me. This song reminds me to simply Trust and Obey – God has it all under control. Thanks for hostessing the party. Hope you have a good weekend. Hugs ~ Mary

    Good Afternoon, Lorraine. This is one of my favorite, old hymns. Our congregation often sang this on Sunday mornings when I was a child. The verses have become more meaningful as I have grown older.
    I also love the photograph today. Wishing you and your family a blessed weekend.
