Monte Cristo Crescent Sandwich & Monte Cristo Crescent Braid

By Lorraine

You can tell I love a Monte Cristo Sandwich since this is the fourth recipe I am sharing! Something about the combination of ham, turkey melted cheese and raspberry jam wrapped in a warm, crispy bread that is so appealing.
Great for lunch, dinner, snack or even warmed in the microwave or toaster oven for breakfast the next morning! Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar or dip in a little maple syrup if you like. It’s all good!

Here are two more ways to make a Monte Cristo Sandwich, both using a tube of refrigerated crescent rolls. They look pretty plated and are super yummy!
And, of course, you can change up the deli meats and cheese as you prefer.
Sprinkle top with poppy seeds, sesame seeds of just leave plain.
Braided Crescent Monte Cristo
Ingredients

2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
6 oz thinly sliced smoked cooked turkey breast
6 oz medium sliced muenster (American, Swiss cheese, cheddar or favorite)
6 oz thinly sliced cooked ham
1/3 to 1/2 cup Red Raspberry Preserves or Jam (I prefer seedless)

Egg wash (optional)
beat together:
1 egg
1 tsp. water
2 tablespoons slivered almonds, sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
Heat oven to 375°F. Spray cookie sheet lightly with cooking spray.
Unroll crescent roll dough into 2 large rectangles. Place dough with long sides together on cookie sheet, forming 15×12-inch rectangle. Press edges and perforations to seal. Press edges together to seal.
Spread raspberry preserves or jam down the center of the dough; top with turkey, ham and cheese.
With scissors or sharp knife, make cuts 1 1/2 inches apart on long sides of dough to within 1/2 inch of filling. Twisting each strip once, alternately cross strips over filling. Tuck short ends under; press to seal. Brush dough with beaten egg and water wash. Sprinkle with almonds.
Bake 28 to 33 minutes or until deep golden brown. Cool 5 minutes. Cut crosswise into slices.
Monte Cristo Sandwiches can be made in a stacked version too, using the same ingredients.
Monte Cristo Crescent Sandwich
slightly adapted from Pillsbury
Ham, turkey and muenster cheese are layered with flaky crescent dough in this honey-glazed sandwich loaf. It’s delicious!

Ingredients
2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
6 oz thinly sliced smoked cooked turkey breast
6 oz medium sliced muenster (American, Swiss cheese, cheddar or favorite)
6 oz thinly sliced cooked ham
1/3 to 1/2 cup Red Raspberry Preserves or Jam (I prefer seedless)

Egg wash (optional)
beat together:
1 egg
1 tsp. water
2 tablespoons slivered almonds, sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Directions
Heat oven to 375°F. Separate or cut dough into 4 long rectangles. Place rectangles on an ungreased cookie sheets (rectangles should not touch); if using crescent dough, firmly press perforations to seal.

Bake 8 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown; cool 15 minutes.

Grease pan. Carefully place 1 crust on pan. Top evenly with turkey, ham and cheese; spread with some of the raspberry preserves Cover with second crust; repeat meat/cheese/preserves layer. Place third crust on top; repeat layering again. Top with fourth crust; brush top with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame, poppy seed, or slivered almonds.

Bake additional 10 to 15 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown and loaf is hot. Let stand 5 minutes. Cut into slices.

They look delicious – I really like the look of the first one, we can't get cans of dinner rolls here – I wonder what I could use instead?

Oh my goodness…my mouth is watering here, Lorraine! I must try this wonderful sandwich! The jam surely adds just the right amount of sweet to the savory! Thanks for sharing 🙂
