The Way I Should Go

By Lorraine

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. The Way I Should Go
What is the number one question you are seeking an answer to? The thing you are most looking to understand? The prayer you are praying most often? For me, the frequent question is knowing the way I should go.

These questions change as we pass through phases and stages in our lives and they are different for each individual person. I used to be a pretty quick decision maker. Nowadays not so much. Maybe because there are more options and therefore more room for error.

But I have learned it is not wrong to ask these questions. In fact, Scripture encourages us to seek counsel.

The Way I should Go

Here are a few verses I turn to when facing decisions:

  • Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:4-5
  • But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
  • Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1 5

Prayers for Guidance

  • Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Let me hear Your loving-kindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8
  • He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way. Psalm 25:9
  • If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6

Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding Proverbs 3 5 to 6

  • Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24
  • I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8-9
  • Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go. “If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your well-being would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Isaiah 48:17-18

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8-9

God’s Word guides me

  • Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
  • The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Psalm 19:8

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

So if you also struggle with finding direction, decision making and guidance, then I hope this collection of verses help you too.
