Crochet Braided Scarf

By Lorraine

The temps are beginning to drop around here and it is beginning to look a little like autumn.
Have you been noticing the crochet braided infinity scarves showing up on Pinterest and on blogs?
They work up quickly and are very adaptable to changes.

Easy pattern for crochet infinity braided scarf.

Now, you can follow the very easy pattern directions or you can do as I did to make three strips.

How to make crochet infinity scarf

  • Use yarn in your stash and run short
  • Call local shops and learn that not only do they not have the same color but the brand has been discontinued.
  • Purchase additional yarn that coordinates but is slightly thicker so that you have to begin with a shorter chain length and alter directions slightly so coordinating strip is not too wide.

Ignoring my yarn dilemma, this is a very easy project.
After crocheting the three strips, make a braid being careful not to twist as you go.
After curving the braids around to form a circle, you will notice that my three colors did not match up.
It really didn’t bother me as this part of the scarf would be worn at the back of neck.
Here is how the scarf would look.
But since I often clip my hair up I thought it better to match them up.
I re-pinned the strips so that the colors matched.  This made the braids a little looser.
Using a large-eye needle and a length of yarn, neatly stitch the edges of each strip together.
Finished
I pulled a jacket from the back of the foyer closet to try with my new scarf.
When those cooler days finally arrive, I will be ready.
 🙂

Notes about my scarf

Two strips were made using the now discontinued Red Heart Eco-Ways, color Fern and one strip in Lion Brand Yarn Boucle Homespun, color Pesto.  Since the Boucle yarn is thicker, I chained a shorter length and worked in all double crochet but completed the last row in half double crochet so this strip would be the same width as first two.

You can easily make the scarf longer or shorter by the number of chains you begin with. Make it thicker or thinner by using double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet or a combination.  Use all the same color or three different colors. It is very adaptable.

Easy pattern for crochet infinity braided scarf. Three strips worked in basic crochet stitches, braided and stitched together. Very adaptable pattern.

Here is another, shorter version infinity scarf in a pretty aqua color made for my granddaughter. Click to see this Short Infinity Scarf version.

How beautiful and you are too fun with that camera! Cute, cute.
Oh on my neglected decorating blog…no I didn't do any prep, I think my furniture was so old it just soaked up the paint..both the blue and the stain. It has been on there for four year without any problem.
