Butterflies and Moths

By Lorraine

I have not seen as many butterflies this year as in past years.
Usually I would have a least two or three at the butterfly bush at any given moment but not this year.

While walking Raider a couple of nights ago, John called for me to see this large nighttime moth visiting the cleome.

Only a guy could get so excited about a moth!
“Did you see that long proboscis?”
“Sure, Honey.  Really cool!”

Okay… I have to say that is a pretty cool looking moth! Thanks for sending me the link to Knitting Kat. I will definitely be spending a little time browsing there tonight. So excited to share a little beginning spinning how to very soon. 🙂

I don't think I've seen one butterfly at all this year. Love the pictures and I have to say that is a very cool looking moth

Your pictures are wonderful! We don't usually have many butterflies here until late summer. I've been seeing a few lately. I love watching them drift around aimlessly. They really know how to enjoy their surroundings, don't they?

What amazing photos — especially how you "captured" the moth. And your wedding photos are wonderful. What a pretty place for a wedding and I love how the little boys carry signs! I'm sure they were thrilled with your photography!

Sadly, I have only seen one butterfly in the past two weeks. It is just sad and from what I understand the pesticides, etc. are making them fewer and fewer as the years go by. I am NOT a big fan of moths- they kind of freak me out- I got one caught up under my hair one time and like to died! UGH- But -GREAT PICTURES! xo Diana

What beautiful pictures! I've noticed the same thing here..very few butterflies. We have those moths here, too, and they always amaze me!

    It's definitely long!

I love the first shot of the moth and the last one of the swallowtail.
