Chex cereal mixed with chocolate and peanut butter then tossed with confectioners sugar is easy and crazy good! Toss in pretzels and candy corn for a frightfully delicious party snack. Crunchy, crispy, salty, sweet, Autumn Puppy Chow is so easy to make and is so yummy to munch that it just might get you into frightful trouble! There are affiliate links in this post.

Crunchy, crispy, salty, sweet, Autumn Puppy Chow is easy to make with Chex Mix, chocolate, peanut butter and candy corn. Also called Muddy Buddy it is a perfect Halloween party treat! Also called Muddy Buddies, a bowlful is a tasty combination of Chex cereal, melted chocolate and peanut butter. Tossed with confectioners sugar, coating every crunchy morsel, it is an enchanting party treat. Stir in pretzels, colorful M&M’s and a splattering of candy corn, and you have a potion able to keep visiting ghouls and goblins from creating horrific havoc.

Stir mixture.  Microwave about 30 seconds more or until mixture is stirred smooth.

  Package puppy chow in individual treat bags and secure with string, ties or ribbon. I found my old canning funnel helpful when spooning into the bags. Or store the loose puppy chow in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Autumn Puppy Chow

PRINT RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (Corn, Rice or Wheat or a combination)
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • Brach’s Candy corn (I used the 16.2-oz bag)
  • 6 oz package Reese’s pieces candy
  • 4 cups Snyder’s Snaps pretzels

DIRECTIONS

In a 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on high about 1 minute. Stir mixture.  Microwave about 30 seconds more or until mixture is stirred smooth.

Add vanilla extract to melted chocolate mixture and stir until incorporated.

Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and mix gently until all cereal is covered.

Place cereal in a large 2-gallon size resealable food-storage plastic bag.  Add the powdered sugar, seal and shake until all the cereal is well coated. 

Spread on a silicon mat, parchment paper, or waxed paper-covered baking sheet and allow to cool
Place the Puppy Chow mixture into a large bowl and add your favorite pretzels and candy.  Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
