Tips & Variations

  • Use processed peanut butter (like Jif or Skippy) for best results. Natural peanut butter can separate.
  • Don’t add candy until the mixture is fully cooled to avoid melting the colors.
  • For a nut-free version, use sunflower seed butter and allergy-friendly candies
  • Candy can be swapped based on preference or season. Red and green M&Ms for Christmas, pastel candies for spring.
  • For a gluten-free version, use certified GF cereal and pretzels.
  • Try Crispix, Chocolate Chex, or Cinnamon Chex as fun cereal alternatives.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips

  • Keep your Puppy Chow fresh by storing it in an airtight container at room temperature. It’s best enjoyed within 5–7 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze in freezer-safe containers for up to a month. Pop it in the freezer and bring it out before serving—it’s delicious chilled!
  • Puppy Chow is a great make-ahead treat. Just stir in the candy before serving if freezing ahead of time.
