An Easy Kitchen Shelf

By Lorraine

Keeping up with family gatherings and general summer yard work and responsibilities has kept me from working on many projects but we did manage a small shelf at the end of the cabinets in the kitchen.

And as you know…
If you give a shelf a coat of paint
you begin touching-up those little nicks on the doors
which makes you notice the tiny chips on the trim work
that in turn, highlights the dings in the surbases
that brings attention to the scratches in the foyer
that magnifies the grime around the handle on the front door
then reminds you the shelf needs a second coat of paint…

An Easy Kitchen Shelf

So here is the little shelf that stared it all.
An easy DIY kitchen shelf adds a decorative and functional element to cabinets and counter top giving extra space for serving.
My project was twofold.  I wanted to add a little interest to the end of the cabinet and, since I often serve from this counter top, I knew a little shelf would give added space for glasses or utensils. We had the wood  scraps and brackets in the garage and came up with a simple design.

I adore what you've done. Look what great interest one little shelf with the perfect scrolly brackets can do! So glad you thought of that. It's making me think…"where can I put a little shelf?" This really is just too sweet. But then, your kitchen is fabulous with that cabinet with the glass doors, and I love how your kitchen opens up to your living room. Just wow!

Very cute little shelf that adds even more character to your kitchen. And isn't that the truth about one small thing leading to another (usually larger thing?!)

That is so sweet there and will come in handy for so many uses. I adore an all white kitchen. I see you ran into the same thing I did a few weeks ago when I decided to paint the molding around the kitchen door leading into the front foyer. Ended up painting the molding and trim work in the foyer and then the lower cabinets in the kitchen.

LOVE your kitchen re-do, it so makes it much brigher and a delight to cook in. I too did what you did, took the cabinets from brown stained wood to white. What a job!

But thankfully I did not have the misshap you did with the soda bottle. BUT hey, you gained a new SIL over it. That's cool.

    Blessings and love,
