Keeping up with family gatherings and general summer yard work and responsibilities has kept me from working on many projects but we did manage a small shelf at the end of the cabinets in the kitchen.
And as you know…
If you give a shelf a coat of paint
you begin touching-up those little nicks on the doors
which makes you notice the tiny chips on the trim work
that in turn, highlights the dings in the surbases
that brings attention to the scratches in the foyer
that magnifies the grime around the handle on the front door
then reminds you the shelf needs a second coat of paint…
An Easy Kitchen Shelf
So here is the little shelf that stared it all.
My project was twofold. I wanted to add a little interest to the end of the cabinet and, since I often serve from this counter top, I knew a little shelf would give added space for glasses or utensils. We had the wood scraps and brackets in the garage and came up with a simple design.

What a great idea! I love your kitchen.
Love
The perfect, functional touch to your kitchen. I like how you think of serving others in your decorating additions. Beautifully done.
I adore what you've done. Look what great interest one little shelf with the perfect scrolly brackets can do! So glad you thought of that. It's making me think…"where can I put a little shelf?" This really is just too sweet. But then, your kitchen is fabulous with that cabinet with the glass doors, and I love how your kitchen opens up to your living room. Just wow!

Your shelf is lovely! I love things that are both decorative and useful, and you've definitely achieved both here.
Wow! this is a gorgeous addition to your already beautiful home! Love it xo
Nice touch! What a pretty kitchen, too
How adorable and such a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
God bless you – Julie
Your little shelf is so charming! I love it….what a special touch you have.
So pretty and fresh and clean. It looks great!! And, pretty lady…I wish 4-12 was all I had to worry about!!! :'( My blog on Thursday will tell a bit more of my weight loss dilemma!!!
Very cute little shelf that adds even more character to your kitchen. And isn't that the truth about one small thing leading to another (usually larger thing?!)
What a charming little shelf and it does add a special little something!!!
That is a lovely little shelf! I love how you just put it all together with what you already had. Have a beautiful day! Tammy
how pretty! You have a lovely kitchen.
I LOVE your little shelf!!!! I can see where I certainly could use one of those. It adds such purpose and interest to your cabinet.
It's very lovely. That's a really great idea!
It looks like it's always been there…the shelf is th perfect touch!
What a darling shelf…and the perfect addition to your counter space!
Yes, I know all about those "if you give a mouse a cookie" kinds of projects.
This looks terrific. I'm thinking of doing some home changes, but I see it getting to be a bigger and bigger project with each teeny change.
I like this very much, great idea! OH! how well I know how a little project can quickly turn into a major one.
Enjoy your week.

Love the gingerbread shelf brackets!
Oh I love this….soo cute, and yet functional. Isn't that how it always goes? One thing leads to another that leads to another and on and on it goes. Hope you have a good day!
A great idea and it was meant for that spot. Looks wonderful. Who would have thought that little shelf would have created all that work though
I love the shelf! Your kitchen is just beautiful and I enjoyed the link to your cabinet makeover.
I have been taking down curtains and blinds today – we are having the windows replaced on Wed. We are going to have some unhappy cats for several hours!!!!!
Wishing you a very nice week.
Adorable, love the brackets:@)

I love it, Lorraine-It looks great. I hear you though-one brush stroke leads to another and another.
I love your new header and blog look- xo Diana
This is so sweet, Lorraine. Your home is so lovely anyway, from what you have shared of it and this just adds to the charm. We are painting kitchen cabinets today!
Beautiful. We are painting all of our kitchen cabinets this summer. I love your wood floors.
That is so sweet there and will come in handy for so many uses. I adore an all white kitchen. I see you ran into the same thing I did a few weeks ago when I decided to paint the molding around the kitchen door leading into the front foyer. Ended up painting the molding and trim work in the foyer and then the lower cabinets in the kitchen.
LOVE your kitchen re-do, it so makes it much brigher and a delight to cook in. I too did what you did, took the cabinets from brown stained wood to white. What a job!
But thankfully I did not have the misshap you did with the soda bottle. BUT hey, you gained a new SIL over it. That's cool.
How beautiful.
How cute is this? And I love that it is functional. I've been looking for ways to do something like this as our new place is so small. Love this idea.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
