no more lime green. ever.
Back to a color I can live with.
It all started with a desire to lighten the family room.
I had a plan to add wood trim above the mantle and paint it all a white semi-gloss to match the rest of the fireplace.
After telling John what I envisioned, he did the measuring, calculations and…

building. I did the nail-hole filling, spackling, sanding, priming and painting.
That part of the job went as planned.
Next came the careful and thoughtful color choice. I thought I nailed it. I did not.
The wall color looked bright and cheerful…
for a few minutes each morning.
It looked dreadful and gaudy for all the rest of the minutes of the day and night, especially with the lights turned on.
My confidence to now choose a pleasing color was shot and I daily contemplated a remedy.
I thought about using the pale aqua blue I have in my dining room that I will be forever pleased with. I thought of another bold statement-color like a deep, rich turquoise but quickly dismissed it in fear of another disaster in both wasted time and cost. Feeling uncertain about a color to correct, I rummaged through the assortment of paint cans in the garage and found one with enough paint to cover the eye-sore and return a soothing calmness to my soul.
During our visit with Jill, we went to a Kirkland’s store near her and I was delighted to find this beautiful Peacock picture. Not only did I love it but it was also on sale. Very on sale! The final price was an unbelievable $28! When the cashier told me the total, I asked if she got everything.
John picked the sconces and I also bought a pair of canvas peacock pieces.
SO soothing and calm now. I love the peacocks! I found a pair of vintage metal peacocks last spring, and I have yet to paint them but I will. They are fairly gaudy now, but they'll look great in another color (I think, but we'll see!):

Thanks for linking up to my post on failure. I'm loving the final look!
Your mantel is beautiful!
We have almost the same color in our living room: our walls are somewhere between light green and lime. We are living in the 3rd floor and in front of the building are beautiful high trees. I am greateful for them in summer, but here is always so grey
Your home is beautiful.
You are blessed.
It looks beautiful, calm and serene. I'll bet you're so much happier now. The mantle looks great and all your accessories in the room are wonderful.
This room certainly looks like it was professionally done and yet with a cozy, warm, and inviting feel to it. You did a beautiful job! Who wouldn't love to sit and vist in that pretty room!
Great choice in changing your color to something more soothing. I love the peacocks as an accent. That pop of color brightens the whole room!
Aaahhh ! Now you can breathe a sigh of relief. Kirkland's is one of my favorite stores! When we head to the States in the summer, I'm always on the lookout for one. They really do have such great prices on unique items. Your room redo looks fantastic! Have a wonderful day. Tammy
Beautiful! Love all your peacock elements ~ and you know, the lime looks really lovely in the photo! More serene your final way, though!
Hugs,
Anne
Hi Lorraine, It was lovely to hear from you! I don't think I have seen a more beautiful room. I may be crafty, but oh how I wish I could decorate. Lovely! Elizabeth
Your room makeover is gorgeous!
Love all of your rooms and photos!
Lorraine- The room looks absolutely beautiful. The fireplace is just perfect for the room…and the room is peaceful feeling! Love it- xo Diana
I love your 'new' family room! Your fireplace is gorgeous and it really makes a statement in your room. You found the right wall color for your new peacocks. Great job, my friend.
~Adrienne~
It looks so quiet and peaceful. Your pictures are wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
Calm matters. Morning light versus the light of other times of day also matters. My friends always kid me because when choosing colors I always mention how something will look in morning light and afternoon light. Sometimes there's just no knowing until it's on the wall, sadly. Good for you making some changes you love.

I love your updated mantel. I agree the green was pretty but not for everyday. You have a beautiful home.
Oh so pretty–I am loving your peacock accents
It looks lovely – bright but also soothing. I'm a big believer in letting the accessories bring the colour into a room – years of military moves, and being unable to paint walls taught me this!
WOW!!!!! Beautiful!!!! I like it soooo much!
Absolutely beautiful, Lorraine! I made a few mistakes with paint colors this past summer, luckily I have a very understanding, and loving, husband. ~smile~
Thanks for the Pizza toast recipe, I know what I am going to have the next time I am craving pizza, and am short on time. it looks so delicious.
Enjoy your day.
Blessings,
Sue
It's very pretty, Lorraine. Mother and I had many Christmas tree ornaments with peacock feathers at one time.
I am in love with the peacock painting, it is so beautiful, and I adore peacocks. The color looks so soft and soothing, the room looks great. Peacock accents are wonderful. I had two Kirkland's nearby in NJ and both closed! xo
It all looks great. Love the peacocks too. I'm your new follower. Hope you'll come visit me too.
Enjoy your new space.
Anyone that has read my blog knows and understand I love Kirkland's.
I was there last week and saw all the beautiful peacock pictures and things they had in the store. I was drooling all over the place.
I am so glad you were able to purchase some of those beautiful things. Your home is so beautiful anyway and these just was icing on the cake.
Definitely more soothing than the green. The room looks beautiful Lorraine! Love the pops of aqua and the peacock artwork is very pretty!
It looks so good! I really like this color. The green was a little much for my taste.
