With the holidays behind us and the quieter days of January here, I now have some free moments to sit with a cup of tea and enjoy working on a small project for Valentine’s Day. A sweet crochet flower heart. It is cheerful, bright and perfectly easy.

After making a few of these little flowers you will be able to whip them out quickly from memory. That works well for me while cozy on the sofa watching TV. The same goes with the leaves. It is a relaxing crochet project.
Make the flowers in any color you like. You can make them all one color or one in every color you have in your yarn stash. It is totally up to you.
You don’t need to add leaves but I like them. Add buttons in various sizes and or colors. This tutorial is really just to guide you along. You have lots of options.
Deciding on wreath size
I started by crocheting enough flowers to create the approximate size of the what I wanted the finished shape to be. Your shape can be a circle or oval if you prefer.
I contemplated various ideas for the base like using poster board cut into a heart shape, a purchased metal shape or something light-weight and made of wood. I went with pipe cleaners twisted double for strength.
It takes a little bending and shaping to get the shape to lie flat.
Here is a better look at the pipe cleaners twisted together.
Sewing the buttons onto the flowers
I used the yarn end from the crocheted flower to sew the buttons onto each flower but did not trim the ends so they could be used to tie onto the base.
After attaching the flowers and the leaves all the way around the pipe cleaner shaped heart, it looked really cute. Until I lifted it up and the heart sagged because of the weight. So…. I used not one but two pieces of floral stem wire giving the heart wreath strength to keep its shape. Now, my heart is 14-inches high and 14-inches wide with 22 flowers and about a dozen leaves. If the wreath were smaller it would not need as much base support.
All finished and looking sweet.
Quick, easy and perfectly pretty, this sweet crochet flower heart is cheerful, bright and a great craft and decoration for Valentine’s Day.

Hanging Loop
You can use ribbon or yarn to create a hanging loop for the wreath. I took a length of green yarn and chained about 50 then attached it to the back of the wreath.

What a cute wreath. I was trying to think of something small like this that I could work on while I’m sitting and watching tv. Thanks for sharing the project
