Since the goal of this weekly meme is to learn and grow in our photography skills, I am posting my beginning attempts at adding textures to photos.
Textures photos are popping up everywhere because they make some very beautiful and interesting images.
There are very kind folks that graciously share free textures.
The one I turn to most often is

Jerry also has some terrific tutorials.
I have perused the internet for some how-to’s but it seems I am mostly left with trial and error.
One of my problems is that I haven’t developed the ability to know which textures might work with a specific image. I know well the look I want to achieve but most times unable. I end up spending a lot of time and disliking the result.
So… I am open to all help and suggestions!
Specifically, I would love to be able to create soft, light, misty type images.

*Camera type: Canon Rebel XT
*Lens 28-105 mm
*Settings : program
*Was this a posed or random shot? random ~ I point the camera and shoot lots as the kids play and run around.
*Did you use any special lighting or techniques? no
*Did you edit it? cropping and slight lightening (my camera always shoots darker than I like)
*Why is this your favorite shot of the week. I love the hazel color of this little guys eyes and his blond hair and perfect complexion. And… he just turned four years old!

Texture is something I have not worked with at all. I don't have the big Photoshop program only an earlier version of Photoshop Elements. I guess I really should sit down and try going thru some tutorials.

The Forget Me Nots are neat. I like the way the bokeh was texturized and the clarity of the focal point remains free and clear. I have had a hard time getting good shots of those little flowers. That is a great one.
The photos of the kids are intriguing. The top one is my favorite. I love the warm bronzy feel to it. Maybe just a hint too yellow on the forehead? (remember my opinions mean nothing!!) The glistening tongue and sparkling eyes make this photo so entrancing.
The second photo is precious as well! The color and texture makes her look fairy like! Is that the peacock texture he talked about? The pureness of her skin tone – makes her angelic. Is that texture different on either side? One of my faults is symmetry – I like it – I like things the same on both sides (not referring to the measurement of space, but the design itself – but I can see how it makes for a very interesting photo.

They are just beautiful. I don't know how much help this would be but have you tried adjusting your levels to lighten things up and possible adding a white vignette. This is a link to a post I did a while ago playing with the levels and adding the vignette

I'm also learning as I go with getting the effects I want. The texture is an interesting feature.
