At the age of 22, with a new baby in my arms and my husband at my side, I became a believer. I didn’t really know what that meant, but I when I heard that I could know for sure that my sins could be forgiven and I could have a relationship with God, it was a no-brainer for me. Some call that Irresistible Grace.
Some people think they’ve strayed too far and either try to do better or try to hide from God. The good news is that God loved us while we were yet sinners. He loved us first and it is by His kindness that we are drawn to Him.
I could never sum up what God’s love looks like to me or to you, because it is immeasurable.
But it starts here…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
Why did God give His one and only Son?
It’s that ugly word.
Sin. No one likes it. Don’t like hearing it, thinking about it, and especially being accused of it.
But it is undeniable.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:32
That leaves us in a predicament.
Separated, alienated and not in a good place.
There is something else that is undeniable.
We can’t do anything about it. We can’t fix it no matter how hard we try. We can’t live a good enough life. We can’t pay the penalty for our sins. The debt is too large. And try as we might, we can’t ultimately hide from it.
That takes us back to John 3:16.
The fixing of our situation is done for us.
You see, the bible tells us the penalty for sin is death. Eternal separation from God.
But God… God gave his one and only Son
God sent Jesus.
Jesus left his heavenly throne to come to earth, voluntarily, took on my sins, and went to the Cross, sacrificially giving up His sinless life to pay the debt I owed.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
His free gift to me and all that accept it.
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
That’s Amazing grace.
If you haven’t already made a decision to accept this gift, I hope you will give further thought to it.
