it starts with the sound of the sirens in the distance…
and builds as the shrill intensifies and the fire truck rounds the corner with lights flashing…
a little girl of long ago, excitedly emerges and waves as Santa drives by the house…
I am transported back many years with the same excitement filling my heart… every year!
John asked, ‘Doesn’t it look a little silly you being out here waving to Santa without any children around?’ Ah, but there is a child here!
For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself.
I assume I get this charge because my parents made a big deal of Santa when we were children. My Mom and Dad did not come to know the Good News and embrace Jesus as their Savior until they were in their later years. Though Santa was never the focus of our Christmas celebration of Christ’s birth, and our grandchildren have always understood the fantasy of Santa, I think their Mom-Mom will always run out to wave as the fire truck passes by.
A photo snapped Friday evening, just before John & I left to attend his company Christmas Party. We had a wonderful time. |

When I was growing up, it was stressed that the reason for the season was to celebrate the birth of Jesus but Santa was always welcome in our celebration. I would have run out there with you to wave at him if I had been there 🙂

I love the walk down Memory Lane. How cute you were! When I first started reading your post, I was concerned that you were going to share something tragic. But alas, it was simply Santa Claus! I was relieved. I love the photo of you and your husband. What a good looking couple you are!

Thanks for visiting my blog on "let there be light"
I want you to know that you had something to do with my desire to move forward and have a tree. I looked at all the photos on your pages and the desire started to grow.
At the same time I was doing a lot of thinking about Jesus coming as the Light to the world.
Thanks for your encouraging words and all the other bloggers who express their feelings.
It's amazing how we can help each other – how we can give each other hope.

This was fun! And I would have done the same thing.
I was brought up to NOT believe in Santa at all. But even as a child when I was at a party where Santa appeared (often with my parents)it was always magical to me – and still is.
One of my co-workers has a statue on her desk of Santa holding baby Jesus. Santa looks absolutely awe-struck. It's beautiful.

I didn't know Jesus as my Savior until well into my adult life…Christmas was all about Santa when I was a child and also for a good part of my childrens' lives. Santas on fire trucks, in malls and even once at our front door! That was quite exciting! I love the magic of Christmas that is Santa.
I also love that each of my children, and the spouses of those that are married, know the Good News! What a treasure that is! And what a treasure that Dickens quote is! Thank you for sharing it.
Love the photo of you and John…and isn't it a sweet blessing to have a company Christmas party to go to!

How fun! How can you not wave at Santa as he is going by???!!! When we would go to my Mammaw's in Mississippi for the holidays, on Christmas Eve, the local radio station would have a helicopter fly around with the sound of jingle bells and we were told it was Santa going by in his sleigh. Of course we believed it when we were so little. Great picture of the two of you. Have a great week. Tammy

It is always such a pleasure to share your joyous spirit in a cynical age. I'm hoping to capture a little Christmas Spirit through my grandson this year.

The volunteer firemen were out on our road last night, and The Great Dane and our daughter ran down the drive to wave at them. I missed our two little grandsons to trust myself not to cry, so I stayed in and watched from the window. Our firemen stop at the end of each drive and collect food for the food bank, and any little ones are welcome to climb onto the truck and ride along.
I love that the little girl that still lives in you was out there waving!
I've linked my post today to you – I hope it's alright – I probably should have asked!

First, I would like to say what a lovely couple you and John make. The photo from Friday's party is beautiful. Love your dress and his tie coordinates so well.
My little town did not have Santa on a fire truck BUT we did have an Old Soldier's Day Parade each August. Still to this day, I get chill bumps when I hear the fire engine's siren as the parade gets underway!!!
Such sweet Santa pics of you and John.
Thanking God for your friendship and wishing you and your family a very blessed Christmas.
