Moving into the month of December, our thoughts turn to the excitement of parties, celebrations, family gatherings and festivities that make the season bright. There is shopping and decorating, baking and planning. While it is a wonderful time of year, we can sometimes forget the reason we celebrate. 25 Days of Advent: Creation through Ascension is a different take on counting down the days until Christmas. It is a beautiful story.
An expectant waiting
Advent is an expectant waiting period and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. A time to think and ponder Jesus and why he came, as a baby, to the town of Bethlehem. But that is just part of the story. Looking from creation to his ascension we see HIS Story, the redemptive story.
One might not think the story of creation or the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus has much to do with the Christmas story. But if we step back we can see the whole story. How, at the precise moment in eternity, God sent his Son, to leave His heavenly throne and live among humanity. We just can’t grasp the immensity of it all.
Advent isn’t just a countdown to Christmas, it’s a way to think on and celebrate how Jesus was prophesied throughout history and how His first coming fulfilled the law so we could be made right with the Lord through His death and resurrection! It’s also a season to ponder Jesus’ second coming, to repent, and to prepare our hearts for that day where every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
25 Days of Advent: Creation through Ascension
Inspired by the Living Nativity our church has provided to the community for over twenty years, I have compiled a 25 Days of Advent: Creation through Ascension as a daily reading. One verse for each day in December leading up to Christmas day. To ponder and consider. To use to draw near to God and allow His words to prepare our hearts as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. The printable is FREE. Scroll down for the download.
My hope is that you will enjoy this daily reading personally or to use with your family. It is very short, just one verse each day. Think on it, talk about it, ask God what He is saying to you through it. Celebrate the reason for the season.
