I Love Doilies…

By Lorraine

…and tablecloths
     …and hankies
          …and lace
               …and bureau scarves
                    …and table runners
…and vintage baby clothing(ours and our children)
…and vintage baby shoes (ours and our children)

Crisp white linens, starched and ironed are my favorite.

The hand made pieces and the machine made ones ~ both beautiful to me, with the soft yellowing of age.

The pieces that are not being enjoyed around the house are stored in a pie safe that I bought years ago, unfinished and stained in a cherry wood color.

I have been busy sorting and labeling many of the pieces I have.
I have pieces that my mom has made back in the 1940’s.  There are a few things made by her mother, who died long before I was born.  There are items that were given to me as gifts.
One day they will belong to my children and I want to leave notes about each piece so they might enjoy how they came to be special to our family.

Some they will recognize right away but many others they don’t even know exist.

Right now, I know they don’t have the same appreciation for these piece that I do, but I hope one day they will.  If they do, it will be nice knowing more about the hands that created each piece.

a locket that belonged to Grandmom Hazel.

all safely stored for the joy of future generations.

Just wanted to let you know storing linens and things in plastic is not good. Like a quilt they need to breath.
I too collect vintage dollies and things ( some I have made) . they can be stored in cloth bags . Also collect quilts some I have made some family have made.
they also should not be stored if they are starched . bugs just love that and will put holes in them. Make sure they are clean and dust free before storing.
Just to let you know. Enjoyed seeing your collection. Thought I was the only one who likes to collect and use these beuatiful pieces.

Your collection is wonderful! I love old linens and clothing, especially children's clothes. You've inspired me to get busy and reorganized mine and share what I know about each so someone will understand it better whenever it moves on to them.

I love doilies, too! I have many that belonged to past generations, too. I am adding to my collection with doilies that I make, too. 🙂

I love how you've organized them. It' so nice for future generations to know who made something or who it came from!

    God bless you – Julie

    Dearest LDH,

What a treasure of beautiful heirloom laces you got. One can only pray and hope that someday, the young(er) generation(s) will learn how to appreciate this labor of love. Guess it has a lot to do with the fact that it is no longer taught and that therefore there's no appreciation for the tedious hours that went into making all this. Plus the lack of respect for the elderly and all that they created. It is a shame that the strong family bonds and high morals and ethics are nowhere to be found in all the Hollywood crap…
Hope there will come a different era before ALL will be lost.

    Lots of love,

    Mariette

It's funny that you posted about this…I have been thinking that I need to do exactly the same thing. I have ONE monogramed pillow case that belonged to a great, great grandmother and it is a beautiful piece..no one would ever know who made it if I don't jot it down. Thanks for the nudge…and your pieces are beautiful and I, like you, hope that someone in my family loves them as I have. Hugs-Diana

What a beautiful collection! I started doing the same thing with my vintage heirloom linens. What I do not use on a regular basis I have packaged, labeled and stored in my antique trunks. I am hoping one day my family will enjoy them and appreciate their history as much as I do.

A very beautiful collection in a very special cabinet. Your children and grandchildren will certainly be blessed by your care of these treasures and the notes you are sharing about each piece.
